Just installed radome and interface box and find the cable linking the chartplotter to the interface box is not long enough. Awaiting an answer but seems like the "extension cable"!!?? advertised does not have male female ends to "extend" (15Ft) and the next size up cost a fortune and is far to long..
Need opinions on the practicalities of splicing in a section. Would dearly love to have working for the weekend. Is it worth a try??

Isn't it just cat 6 cable?

It's not thr rj45 connection but the other bespoke cable. It may be cat6 but I'm not sure. I guess the shielding would be the main consideration...??

Thogh not RJ45 plugs, I believe it is cat 6 cable, (assuming you mean the HDS to radar interface cable)I would either crimp in an xtention using RJ45 plus or use small aluminum project case (s) and splice inside and connect the shield to the case.

Many thanks for your response. I.ll go with the splice and give it a go.
just for the sake of argument the other option of extending the RJ45 and the supply cables could work??? But messy !!!

I had the opposite problem. I needed to remove the mast to replace the standing rigging and had a single run of Lowrance 3G radar cabling. I cut it with a hacksaw! Simply rejoined each of the wires with choc bloc connectors (heresy, I know) and put the joint into an aluminium project case. It all worked fine, just to give you some confidence.
