Just had a good weekend on board with my favourite crew - Marc and Taran :D

Picked up T after school on Friday, then we collected Marc after work and off we trotted stopping off at M&S for delicious things. Saturday was a bit windy, so we spent low water tidying up the boat and put 3 reefs in ready for a trip down to Yokesfleet for the night and a spot of seal watching and rowing in the morning. When we had a metre under us, we got ready to set off - turn the inigiton - zilch!

I've had a few problems with a loose connection but thought I'd chased it through and fixed it. Bummer. Took it all apart and rechecked it - couldn't see anything - even got the local physicists enlisted to show me how to use the multimeter (that I've had on board for years and still don't really know how to use) - but G&A couldn't see anything obvious either. So I sat there for 2 hours painstakingly remaking every connection that I could see and still zilch.

Not realising that I had left the ignition key still switched to 'on', I went below to make a cuppa and in annoyance threw a cup into the sink and PING! the ingition came on! ANNOYING! So there must be a very senstive loose connection somewhere, but I can't find it! aarrrhghgh.

We couldn't risk going overnight and switching off in case I couldn't start it in the morning. So the boys when for a long walk, while I tried to find it again. But it was still working.

In the morning it was lovely weather but little wind so we decided to go up river on the tide but leave the engine in tick over (just in case). We went up river way past Hullbridge, but I'm not where to as I forgot to look on the chart, and the came back. There was just enough wind to get us up there with tide helping and then we ran back under a wet raincloud and berthed up at about 5pm. Turned off engine and tried to restart it - zilch again!!

annoying!

But not as annoying as being pinned in my berth by a catamaran that must be at least 40' wide. It was like trying to get into a box.

Anyway - have the local friendly electrician coming to help me with the connections in the week, unless anyone has any other ideas?...

Sorry we couldn't help! I'm sure the electrician will have seen it all before and will get it sorted quickly.

The cat which is squashed in behind you belongs to the owner of the boatyard, so don't complain too loud!

sadly, tis not true. said cup thrown in annoyance now has annoying chip in it

Phew; thus reassured, you have my sympathy - not that that is much use.

My loose connection on a 2030 was a poor earth. Looked ok, wasn't. Actually it wasn't loose, wasn't dirty, jsut didn't make a good connection.
