Lousy Med summer weather too

Yup, I would'nt swap the Med for the UK, at least not in the near future. Even if we had a bad summer in the Balearics, we have to remember it was diabolical in the UK and then with the cost of red diesel set to rise massively, it's an even less attractive option

Deleted User, point taken, but I just looked on easyjet and those dates Luton-Nice are £67.99 out and £112.47 return (including the add-ons and taxes, ie they are the axshull prices). Why do you bother with Palma??? :))

Yup I dont think Genoa is best location. I only mentioned it cos there is good berth avaialbility there (nhoughn has researched it as a plan B in case he couldn't get an Antibes berht). Cruising isn't great either, down to Portofino or across to Corsica, but they're quite long trips. SofF is much better, but you have to work hard to get a berth, though tis worth it imho. Flights to Nice are cheap and plentiful, good competition on the route (BA, Airfrance, Easyjet and BMI all do London-Nice)

I'm with you on this Mike...

Mind you, I've been downloading the UGRIB files daily since 1st Feb 2006 (sad git aren't I!!!) when our boat was launched in Port Napoleon and having had a look back over them (only wind and pressure of course, not sun etc!) I can say that 2007 in the Western Med had been significantly different to 2006 with regard to NW winds in the Gulf of Lyon and SW winds blowing through the Gibraltar gap and up towards the Balearics.

Definitely stronger winds and definitely more frequent Tramontaine/Mistral periods.

Mind you - as someone who loves the lifestyle where boating can come second, the weather in both Barcelona and the Bay of Roses has been lovely this year!!!

All in all I still would not consider swapping the med for UK boating even med bad weather is good compared to here also I just love the culture & laid back atmosphere, so different to my life here.

I bother with Palma 'coz somebody will rent me a berth there! Actually, we would'nt mind going back to SoF in the future so if you hear of anything, let me know. You're right, Nice is a very competitive route but, actually, so is Palma normally as well

Yes we have been to Cala San Vincente before Mike & love anchoring in that clear water, one of the real joys of Med boating is water like that.

Still love it out there though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I guess you won't be needing a marina berth then if it's always like that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just on our way back from 3 lovely weeks in the Costa Brava. We literally had one minute of rain. We can always expect wind in our location but sun and clear skies most days. We heard though that people had a lousey August. Next year will of course be the perfect year.
