Loud and very annoying music used over the top of perfectly nice sailing films...

I wouldn't know about the music since I muted it within 2.5 seconds. I don't want to be your resident film grouch, but some of us just don't like to have our ears bashed. I also took offence to the pair of legs shown. :disgust:

I was, though, intrigued by the tea-bags going round in synchrony. I got the impression that you were spinning the boat round very fast.

I'd prefer a video like this to have the natural ambient sounds, whether that is the just the wind and the waves, the crew talking, seagulls or whatever. Even better would be the vlog style, where the video maker talks to the viewer. I prefer the ones that are spoken at the time of the actual video as they are more intense and 'real'. It feels like you are almost there with the skipper, or receiving a live despatch from the front. But even the ones that are narrated afterwards are OK, although sometimes they sound artificial as the person has written out a script and is just mechanically reading it out. Still anything is better than just having random music excreted all over it.

Have you considered some gentle folk / Celtic music.
Maybe some gentle sound effects of water, seabirds etc.
A commentary from some old bloke .

That would never work... Even Dylan runs out of words sometimes!

PS - It was Dylans films that originally inspired me. I am sorry Dylan for the gratuitous use of a GoPro, no on board audio and awful music! Such a betrayal...

Try un-muting at Minute 3.29. A nice little tune starts then... Be careful with the legs, you might start liking them after a week at sea!

I am very proud of the tea bag scene!

The trouble is that this was filmed with a GoPro, so as well as the irritating fish eye effect, the audio is also of no use. I thought it would be fun to make it quite "loud" and fast moving. It makes the edit much more simple as well. I think "random music excreted all over it" is perhaps a little harsh. I carefully selected the music and was looking for something loud and realised that it wouldn't be to everyone's taste. Spare some sympathy for my ears, I had to listen to it over and over again during the editing process!

On a serious note about the music though, it may seem random but you have to be very careful with what you use. There are some lesser known musicians who are happy to allow use of their music and some great online databases to access them, but anything aligned to a record label can cause copyright issues which result in the video not working on some devices or in some countries, or at the very least being plastered with adverts. I do not monetise my videos and it's nice to support unsigned bands and/or use music that doesn't result in adverts.

Perhaps this one is slightly better:

Re the GO Pro.

Remember that the skeleton back doesn't screen out most of the noise unlike the full waterproof one. It means the camera isn't waterproof but will still keep the spray / rain off. Sounds aren't as good as a proper microphone of course but it's better than the default sound.

I have only used Jamendo:

https://www.jamendo.com/?language=en

Some excellent music on there and easy and free to use. Have you any other recommendations? Thanks

The first definitions of "nice" in my dictionary are "foolishly simple" and "wanton", so I'm forced to agree with you there.
