Looking to buy 22-28 ft boat to live aboard- any advice ?

If you're living on board full time it's nice to be able to stand up properly in the main cabin, for cooking, getting dressed, etc., especially so in winter. Personally I think I'd struggle to live on one where there wasn't anywhere that I could stand upright, although people do...

What I've been looking at so far are these-

Foxhound 24
Jaguar 25 / 27
Tridant 24
Sailer 23
Sailer 23
Seamaster 23

They seem to all have more of a live aboard layout and utilize the space a bit better.

Various Westerlies in that range ... Cirrus (22'), Nomad (22') , Pageant (23'), Tiger (25'), Windrush (25') or even a Centaur (26') with a shagged engine (stick an outboard bracket on) should all be findable for £4,000 or less. Floating caravans, the lot of them, but since that's what you want ...

If you find something close to Brighton you may well be able to find someone to help you bring it to the marina. Further afield (had you bought the one in Conwy, e.g.) it will take quite some time & planning & road transport is expensive, e.g. £1k for 29 footer Exeter to Brighton plus crane at either end. Usually easier if you're bringing the boat east (with prevailing south westerlies)...

Yeh very true- I rang boat shed in Kent and asked them for a rough price on transportation as the deal with a lot- the guy reckoned Essex to Brighton between £350-£600 + £140 both ends to get it out and launch- so yeh the closer the better :)

Okay struggling to find anything better than this one in Gosport:

Only 22ft but standing headroom, modern Beta engine should be good, sails sound all there, linings look to have been done. I think that would be ok & relatively easy to sell on if you didn't get on with boat life or wanted to go up a size. Assume you've seen this one already in Brighton:

He had a good run at it. I believe he bought a Nic32 and sold Kudu, and then stopped blogging for a while. It's been quite a long while now, come to think of it.

Aye, I'm not looking to liveaboard but I've got a Seawych 19, great expectations, a limited sense of self preservation and literally zero sailing experience so I found this really interesting. Cheers for the link.

It looked to me like work and reality eventually got the better of him so I had a look at the start up which finished him off and he's not on their staff list. Bit disappointing that what limited his dreams might not have worked out for him.

Thank you all for the links and advice - it's been very helpful.
I have decided to go for a Jaguar 27 so I've put a deposit down for one and should hopefully be moving aboard in 3 weeks.
I decided to not go for Brighton Marina as it just looked to damn busy- it looked great for a holiday or short term but just didn't have a very homely vibe. And I could be wrong , so in the summer I will spend a few weeks there perhaps to find out. But for now she's going to be elsewhere. :D Expect more questions to come along with some photos of the undergoing work of making her a cozey liveaboard.

Congratulations, good luck & hope you enjoy the liveaboard life. Add an oil filled radiator and/or fan heater, an electric blanket & you'll be fine...

Will definitely be getting both of them- I remember being a kid in a log cabin with a few friends with only 1 electric heater for the entire place- I think there was 5 or 6 of us crowed round it at one stage trying to keep warm, learnt the hard way! haha

Try it if you can. I lived aboard at Brighton Marina for several years, and it has a lot going for it. At the time, it was reckoned that there were at least 300 people living aboard there.
Jaguar 27 is good. Many years ago I had a Jaguar 25 and I had more fun in that than any of the boats I've owned. It was a good solid sailer too.
