Yes to make a Wifi call using your phone costs the same as if you had a network signal. As i said further up, 10p per minute while in the USA but £1 per minute on the Caribean islands.
Nope. I have specifically asked verbally. Wi fi anywhere is just wi fi. Of course this conversation is moot if using whatsapp, face time or anything like that. They are always free on wi fi.

Ok it appears I have a relatively vintage contract, and its therefore best to check your own terms and conditions. Personal calls clearly are not a problem to use whatsapp etc with. If you need business calling then the 4G mobile router and a VOIP contract is possible, personally I have found eSims to be poor value, better just to stick the 3 card in your phone and put up with the number change. But in s phone, you can’t use hotspot for your laptop or tablet, whereas you can in a mobile router.

I have had poor experience of eSIMs. Buy a physical card on arrival in countries where my contract with EE is uneconomic.
But EE offers a variety of global roaming packages sold on a monthly basis. So I pay £25 extra and for a month can use my UK data in Canada, USA and a lot of other places.
