Shares in several varnish companies or, at least, it feels like it! Stripped back to bare wood every year and 10+ coats applied.

Why? Because I've yet to find a varnish that will last. On a recommendation from a shipwright friend I'm intending to try Ronseal yacht varnish this year. Might even save a few pounds. Edit: maybe not such a good idea.

Sailorman, let me know when you'll be coming on board and I'll arrange for a dray to stand-by ;-)

Roger, assuming it's Black Rose, surely it isn't varnished at all, he uses some mixture based around boiled linseed oil made up himself.
