Have taken the train (happen to live in Rickmansworth) and have driven in inclucing last year
Drive is much less hassle and parking under the venue is not expensive I paid £10 well worth it

But the Op was talking about driving home to Cornwall after a full day at the show.

I ve not yet been to Excel ( probably never will.. far too difficult to get to from NW Kent) but in the days when i used to go to Earls Court sometimes I was almost too shagged to get the the underground station let alone drive for 250 miles or more.

Excel is practically in NW Kent?

I go from Sussex by train (VIC or LB) and then tube/DLR. It's the worst journey in the world!
I've been thinking of just driving straight (rofl) there and parking under. In theory it should be much easier - but we all know about theories! My previous experience of driving into Docklands from the Sout East has not been good - anyone done it?

No far away its true.

I'd go to the next village ( only a couple of miles) where I can park.
From there two slow trains, with a short walk between two different stations. Then two ( even slower) DLR trains to get to Excel.

In the old days it was a fast train to Victoria and then just four stops on the District line to Earls Court

If it were in earls court this year it would be a disaster, the a4 is still shut and will be for a while.

Road links to excel are good but both earls court and excel are in a large capital city they will always be busy an time consuming to get to.

On saying that I did twickenham to excel in rush hour across town in 1hour 10. I have been stuck in traffic on the outskirts of Southampton for longer than that.

I agree with those who would go as far as possible by train.
If it takes 4 hours on the M4 route with the M25, all done after a days work you'll be well tired and not enjoy the arduous day at the show the day after.

Decide what you want from the show and research it on the internet or contact the specific companies of whose products you'r interested in and get hard quotes for show discount or by post and make a choice.
If it's a new boat.... dont! There are too many second hand bargains out there at the moment.

Otherwise I have no recommendations for going to the london Show unless it's an ideal place to meet up with buddies for a day out.

And boy oh boy can you get stuck on the M25.

I wont bore you with the details of my last couple of attempts to come home from the boat via the A3 and M25.

Today SWMBO was coming home from Dorset. ( A303, M3 and M25) but ran into so much traffic that she diverted to Guildford and came home all along the old A25.
