I had a good look at the show yesterday, the most impressive is the 28 metre Sunseeker, but just alongside to the edge of the stand are some of their first boats, both small open boats, a Sovereign and a 21. You could fit them in the owners cabin of the 28metre. Superb styling and fit out the 28m already makes the other boats on the stand outdated, unfortunately I would have to wait over a year if my order goes in. The Princess V39 was out staged by the V42, The V39 looking a bit dumpy and overcrowded by onlookers wondering what all the fuss was about.
Take a look a something different on the Rib-X stand, not a rib but the most extreme designs for a small boat - take one of those Wally/Windy Blackbird creations and reduce it by a factor of 5 and you have the most amazing small boat. Go to the Guiness stand not to drink the black stuff but to google at the yacht that was the result of a gas explosion, it is enough put your glass down and try to remember if you turned the gas off last time you left your boat. All the deck is blown off and the inside is totally smashed up however I understand it has been tidied up for the show - in reality it was a real mess. The first day is renowned for famous faces the most exciting to me are those involved in the boating spirit so it was a shame that the show had to opened by a beautiful rich mans daughter and not a boating personality. I had never heard of her until yesterday. I shook hands with Steve Curtis, Dag Pike and knew that Alan Priddy was around - all real stars.
On my way back from the show a chance meeting and chat at the fuel station revealed news of a recent casualty at the local A & E intake. A young wife had arrived at the hospital beaten up to within an inch of her lie. They had just won £800 000 on the lottery then gone out drinking to excess to celebrate the fortune. The husband had beaten up his wife arguing over how they were going to spend the money. He is now in prison. Perhaps he had wanted a Sunseeker and she a trip around the world who knows.
To finish on a lighter note, the RNLI were called out to retrieve a body sighted off the Hampshire coast, on arrival it was a full size model of ET it has been stolen some weeks ago.

It was interesting to find out today at the show that the V39 is 42 ft long, full marks to Princess for the internal fit out.
