Excuss the question but I have no manual, 'what oil' do you put into a 'Lofrans Royal'manual windless?
Also when you unscrew the fill cap nut there is a 'dip stick' attached, 'how full' do i fill it to?
I looked on the web but anyone know whereI can download a manual?
Thanks
Mike

Having bought a' Lofrans Royal' manual windlass I too had this problem and filled it up to the 'dip stick' the oil started to leak thro the shaft seals so i took it back to the dealer who tried to exchange it for me. The answer I was told no oil was necessary as it was lubricated for life at manufacture. The 'dipstick' is actually a bearing, hope this helps.

That is not a filler cap/dipstick on top it is a stub axle on which pivots one of two bevel gears.

There should be no oil in a Lofrans Royal, the innards are greased before assembly and that is all it needs in the way of lubrication [internally]

I have a .pdf file of an exploded diagram of this windlass, also the User Manual [for what that's worth]. If you wish, I could email these to you but you would have to send me a PM with your email address.

Hello Giovanni/Twister/Felix
Many thanks, Lofrans were very helpfull and confirmed what Twister and Felix said that the windless does not need oil.
Thanks for your help guys, glad I did not fill it last weekend with engine oil!
