This is to try any get people to use their local sailmaker wherever possible. In the last year I've had a new boom cover and main sail made. I tried out the main sail today for the first time and I'm delighted with the work and the care that has gone into it.
I've had perfectly good sails before from the likes of Crusader and have no complaints about them. I checked prices for a new fully battened main and the local sailmaker was the best on a like for like basis. As part of the process we discussed options like roller cars for the mast and benefits of various fabrics and battens. To better than he has done lots of extra work totally free of charge on the boom cover to make it fit the new sail and even easier to use. He also checked the fit of the sail, set up the batten tension, fitted the reefing lines as I did not have time last weekend and decided that the headboard slug was not the best option so fitted another roller car. All within a great fixed price as he wanted to do a great job for a customer.
The message is support your local professionals and they'll support you in return. Oh, I have to say again... the sailing today was great with lots of power in the new main
