Many years ago I was instrumental in 'saving' a wonderful old pilot cutter. sadly, we ran out of bank managers and we had to sell. However, I believe the boat still exists, but there are conflicting messages relating to a marvellous retoratipn project recently undertaken in Gweek.

My old boat had been renamed 'Colaba' from her original name when converted to a yacht in the 1920s. I know she was in Lloyds Register of Yachts in the 1950s, and indeed I bought her complete with British Registry in 1960.

I have the official number of one claimant that might be her but sadly,I have long lost all my records and fail every time I try to get into Lloyds using the internet.

Cn anyone tell me how to do that successfully?

If it's any use, the official number of Colaba is 143507.

Thanks Forbsie,

Where did you get it, from an old Lloyds?
It is even more intriguing because the number given me by those restoring the pilot cutter in Gweek (magnificently!) was 113507. Given that the beam may have been damaged and was carved a long time ago - she was built in 1889 - it seems as if she may be the same one.

Looks as if you may have the one. I have a Lloyds Register of Yachts 1949 and it has Colaba down as being built by J. Hambly in Cardiff in 1889. I must admit, however, that the 143507 doesn't seem to tally with the other Official Numbers of vessels built around that time and so maybe a mis-print in the register.

At that time it was owned by Mr J. Aherne-Heron, The Holt, The Avenue, Farnham Common, Bucks. who also owned a 1934 ketch in Greenock.
