Quite. I will move nearer to the coast at some stage, but I can't rip offspring away from education/friends/etc.

No of course not. Never. ;)

My kids hate going to dinghy lessons after school on a Friday, hate being able to go to the beach which is 10 mins away, loath me for going surfing with them, detest growing up in a low crime area where you can still forget to lock your front door and not worry about it until you get home. Did I mention the horseriding? they hate that too.

And the better air quality, the great schools, the lower level of "problem" that you get in schools "up country", the less stressed parents - I could go on.,

And will - lack of traffic wardens, you can usually find somewhere to park, less narky people around you, wide open spaces without too many "keep off, private" signs and barbed wire, no travellers, hardly any commute traffic jams (a few caravans in the summer though), low light pollution so you can teach the kids the stars......

I always find it funny how many excuses people come up with to not live the life they really want to.

You only get one shot at life.

Go for it.

:) :)

It doesn't matter where your boat is but what on earth are you doing living in the Midlands anyway are you completely bonkers? TBH if you lived 5 miles away from your boat it would not make a lot of difference, you might even find it more frustrating that it is just there but you can't use it because you have to work.

You misunderstand my situation slightly. I'm not planning on bringing my kids with me. My eldest is 20 and away at uni. He's probably already left home. My youngest is 17 and mid A Levels; it would be far from right to disrupt him just now. Once he's done with them, and either at uni, or in the Marines, or working in Canada, then we're pretty much free to go.

I spend a lot of time down there anyway. I shall be down for a fortnight from this coming weekend, another at the end of July and into August, a week at the end of August, and all this on top of the three weeks I've done already this year.

Can I add to that:

Choose the right area and you also get a LOT more house for your money.

= bigger, better house with no mortgage, and possibly some savings left over as well.

No mortgage means you don't have to work so hard, so only work part time and enjoy your new surroundings a lot more.

Wake up and smell the good life.
