Liveaboard Isle of Wight

post 69 he had a spare jacket !!!.I think the man is well sorted myself. thinks for him self.any way don't like the way this is going so will refrain from any more comment other than I tend to read slowly so I don't miss any important bits

seajet I'm with you wouldn't take much to release self.

But suspect it would be his first time with jacket inflated.

Not saying bursting it was stupid, just that there is an inbuilt option that would have been less destructive and could have been left part inflated just in case...

Thankyou for you words of encouragement :)
Ref the lifejacket and the problems I encountered in the storm in post #69, you are quite right...it was the first time I had a lifejacket inflate.
I knew the jacket had a top up breather valve and pressure release jobbie, but had not used this before and was unfamiliar with it.
Being wedged in the broken hatch surround, probably with a little hypothermia at the time, already being smashed backwards against the foredeck by greenies...my instinct was to just break free, so I used the knife to deflate. This allowed me to live.
Remember it was almost pitch black and the waves were the size of houses, God only knows how I didn't capsize. The lump on the bottom of the fin with 50% ballast ratio and a heavy boat may have helped a little...as well as a couple of feet of water inside?
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but to be honest, I'm glad I used the knife instead of fumbling about with frozen hands and a bit of concussion trying to deflate the jacket manually. Like I said before, I could faintly see the next huge wave about to break on the deck...I had literally 2 seconds to get free and I wasn't hanging around to have my body smashed by it. The previous one had seriously hurt me.
Alas, I'm here to tell the story instead of another statistic :)
Fair winds.

hilarious

Hello sandyeyes am just rereading your storm story and am literally laughing out loud, it's hilarious...you certainly know how to tell a good yarn ha ha tee hee!!!!!!!!! Hope we can meet up........ Rita.

Hello sandyeyes....just to clarify..I live on the Isle of wight and want to buy a liveaboard..have sent other replies but they take ages to moderate, anyway hope you are well and hope to hear from you...Rita

Good luck anyway mate,I live on a 24',it's a bit cramped but you have your freedom unlike them who are chained to bricks and mortar. Try and arrange things so you can shift moorings for a change of scene, that is,have a working engine and sails. To me the solent is the most snobby stuck up and costly place I've been in Europe! Let us know how you get on Jerry.

I agree he should go for it. I live on a long keel Barbican 33 for 10 years now and would not go back to a house if you paid me. Cheap comfortable living.
