Words like phone or telly. They are even using the word phone on these telephone booths that seem to suffice for a more private telephone box.

txt spk 2 h8 it.

The Oxford English dictionary taking on these words and making them acceptable usage in the English language.

Harry Potter (enough said)

David Blunket (more crimes against the British way of life than any other person in history)

Being called a citizen, I am a subject, this cannot be revoked.

People from the USA claiming the date 9/11. Call it the terrorist attacks or anything, but stop stealing a common day. Could you imagine having your birthday on 11 September, it would be like being born on Christmas day.

All these bloody one or two minute silences. It seems now if a local dog dies I should hold a vigil and join in a minutes silence. I mourn for my Grandfather and others on the 11th November, the current trend is cheapening the significance of holding a silence.

Road side shrines, now having football shirts, teddies, games you name it. Families are appearing to try and outdo each other. In NZ they will have a single cross if someone dies. Started by the farmers from what I understand. Some corners may have 6 of 7 crosses, which tends to actually slow the traffic down as it shows 6 or 7 accidents at that place. This is a much more respectful way to mourn the dead IMHO.

People who regularly pick up funnies from comedians and claim them for themselves in an attempt to appear witty in a group. I don't mind if they give the credit, but most often they will hope you believe it to be theirs.

The USA claiming the word Americans, when the America's include Canada, Mexico, Brazil etc. Whenever I am told by someone the are a Merkin, I always ask if they are from Peru and they get quite irate by this; Don't know why.

The yanks who think we should thank them for WWII, yet seem to forget we fought for other countries freedoms, we had won ours. Do we ever ask Holland, Poland, Norway etc. for thanks, no because they would have helped us if needed, like we would help the USA. Why do we have to roll over for Merkins, I just don't get that one.

Life's whingers like me, who get carried away when people open this type of can of worms on forums. You will be pleased to know I have finished now/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Political correctness.

People who say "I'm blunt, its my nature" just before they insult you. Just a poor excuse for pig ignorance. When I insult someone, at least I've got the courage to admit I wanted to insult them.

Annoys my eldest no end - she was born 11 September 1991. Even worse, 11 September 2001 the whole family was on its way back from Florida to the UK.
Usually planes fly up along the Eastern Seaboard and cross the pond just south of Halifax. Instead we got diverted to the Azores and spent 8 hours on the tarmac there.

She blames Bin Laden for ruining her birthday in 2001, and Dubya for ruining it every year since then.

Your post seems to verge on the libellous

Just to redress the balance.......I was associated professionally with Ian Watmore whilst he was at Andersens and we worked together for a number of years on several successful large-scale IT ventures. Either he has gone down-hill rapidly or, as I suspect, your assessment is made with virtually no knowledge of the facts.

I hate "different to" instead of "different from". It makes me squirm.

the assessment is not mine alone ... read the Economist October 23-29 page 11 ...

would agree, though, that most IT matters might indeed appear as "ventures" - mostly into the unknown ...
