Does anybody know what the smallest inboard engine around is? I mean smallest physical size really, as we only need 6-8hp. So far the Yanmar 1GM is winning at 19" high...

Height is the major factor, followed be weight and errrr, thats it really.. oh yeah, must be saildrive, but we assume thats not gonna be a problem..

Thanks all..

The smallest and lightest is likely to be Silette's elctric saildrive - right sort of power, entire assembly about 30Kg. Mind you if you dont have a genny and plenty of battery, it may not be a solution....

I'm investigating it for the new race boat (which has plenty of battery power for the canting keel) and wont need the engine except to manouevre. Meeting the duration requirement for ORC is my biggest headache.

The Bukh DV10LSME is small, very compact and reasonable light for an inboard, and is also a saildrive.

It is 380mm high, but also compact in other dimensions as well.

Although the engine is small, the price of it is not. Bukh are about the most expensive of the small marine engine manufacturers. Expect a DV10LSME installation to cost about £5000. That includes the saildrive leg and gearbox, but not the propellor. Gori make a 2 blade folding prop that fits the DV10LSME for about £450.
