My usual set up was two halyard winches on the mast, plus a reefing winch on aft face of mast or under the boom. Plus an assortment of cleats or clutches on the mast. All I have at my cockpit are two sets of headsail sheets (cutter rig), main sheet, and the tails of the two main boom preventers that go to the stern mooring cleats. The cruising chute sheet is only taken to the cockpit when the sail is set.

It looks as if you have a working set up, so why do you want to change it? Will your boat provide a suitable platform for working at the mast in conditions that require the second or third reef? Just like the OP there will be a cost consideration in making changes. If you want to move some of your lines you need to consider which ones and why. First step is to look at how many of them you actually use in day to day sailing, are there any that are not essential for the way you sail the boat? Then consider what tasks you can safely move to the mast along with how and why you want to work there.

One boat I bought had the main halyard led back to the cockpit and reefing lines at the mast. This was changed as soon as I got the boat home as it needed two people to reef. It was a biggish boat that did not leap around too much so everything at the mast was fine, especially as the halyards were external and could hook around a spreader in the dark if I was not careful. The shrouds went to the deck edge so I set up three rungs of ratlines above the guard rail to catch anyone who fell from the mast, they were never needed in nine years of fairly hard sailing but did prove useful for climbing on and off piers.

I suggest that you look carefully at a number of other boats and see how they are set up, it may give you some ideas.

Never ??? I find that hard to believe .. sorry but I've lost count of the number and different boats I've sailed and they all at some time do catch a slider or so ...
Went and viewed today. No winches on the coach roof but very lovely self tailers x4 in the cockpit. Raised the sail on the pontoon of course and was much easier than my experience with lines aft. To note there is a posh insert in the mast for the sail cars to be inserted/removed which caught every single car going up 😂. There must be a knack! Compared to what I have sailed there is acres of space to go forward and it does feel very uncluttered. Whilst it won’t now put me off (so thanks for all the good advice) I will gingerly see how I get on.
