Liferaft Service

Following rown2it 's reply on 11th Dec to my posting on 6th Dec I can add that I have now had my liferaft serviced this was done at Norwest Marine Services Ltd Liverpool by Dave Adams. I delivered the raft an Avon 6 Man ( 21 Years old ) and witnesssed the testing I was surprised at how good a condition the raft was in. Dave explained all the various bits and bobs and stowage etc. A very good service at an affordable price ( See add in Sailing Today ) All items were replaced and the raft repacked. Norwest Marine also sell other safety items including flares contact Dave for Prices.

As stated in previous postings it is well worth witnessing these tests especially if you have never seen a raft inflated, and if you have it tested by an agent who explains it all to you then you will learn a lot from it.

Thanks for the advice. They did mine last year although it was collected and returned by carrier so I have no idea what was done apart from the bill. This time I might deliver it by hand. and stay to see the servicing.

My 6 man Avon, vintage 1989, has just been serviced by Inflatable Boat Services of Falmouth, for £133.57 (inc VAT). This included replacing 4 torch cells, repair kit adhesive and 3 hand-held red flares.

The first service was after 4 years so I am curious to know why it is every year after that. Presumably the annual service will be the same but there should be no need for the replacements.

If you are chartering (as mine is), it HAS to be done every year, as have the lifejackets. This also goes for the fire extinguishers as well.

If you don't charter, it is up to you. Peace of mind, I suppose.

Current cost £55 till end January for service then add replacement bits ( depends on what is replaced and type of pack required, then add VAT. If you phone Norwest Marine he will give you a price relative to your requirement.
