I have just taken over a craft with an XM liferaft. There are two large rings that look tempting to lift with, these rings are attached to the case release ties. Question is it safe to lift liferaft with the two rings?

I've not seen one with a strap like that before, but presumably it's designed to break as the raft inflates. It'll probably hold the weight while being lifted (some other rafts use pallet strapping which is definitely strong enough, yet still breaks when inflated) - but nevertheless I might be tempted to add a few turns to that lashing first. Make sure to remove them again when you put the raft back into use.

They look very similar to the ones I had on my old BFA raft. If so, from experience, they will take the strain if it comes in one direction but not in the opposite.

Have you looked on-line for what the manufacturer says?
