It depends when you wear the LJ and where you are located but you might need to wear them in reasonable weather, overnight in the summer, and then in the depths of winter when you will be wearing the full range of foul weather gear. You might also be wearing a separate harness. Fit needs to cater for the full range (must admit I would feel something of a twat visiting our local chandlery all togged up today - its 30 deg and brilliant sunshine).
On the basis you have a light and a PLB and go over the side you might want to cut the tether - carrying a knife is 'de rigour' - accessing it in the water and being able to manoeuvre to use it is another matter that merits consideration.
Going over the side and not drowning lacks some certainty.
