Anyone tried using the London Boat Show site - which is <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.londonboatshow.com>Here</A>?

Maybe it's me but looking for a particular boat, or what's at the dock side doesn't seem possible. In fact none of the site is brilliant. Beneteau isn't even at the show according to the site. (Waits for the comments)! You'd think it would all be posted up by now!

Now, a feather for our sponsors - YBW seem to have it worked out!

All you Webmasters - is it me, or is it not good?

I entirely agree ... see my post of 16/Dec. Anyone interested? Don't think so, nobody replied! So again we get what we deserve.... or what 'they'think is good.

Yes, I know the subject's not exactly riveting! But surely the industry wants what it deserves? And that's for us to see what's where? This is the first time at Excel, so it's a critical year!

I know we can see it in the mags. The exhibitors will by now be too busy to notice the lack of info on a Website. I know, I've been there often enough. It's interesting to see it from the other side though. The organisers obviously try hard to get it right - no point in doing otherwise but they missed it here. Oh well not to worry.

Sorry, missed your post - seen it now. Not just me then..

A feather for our sponsors????

I don't think so - the ybw.com "full preview" is just as bad. If you look at their Boat Search, you'll find that lots of boats are now apparently not going to be at the show. Try looking for details of Oysters or Hallberg Rassys, for example. It's just very poor marketing. If I were an exhibitor at the show, I'd be asking serious questions.

Not entirely as you say

For HR try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw-directory.com/libs2004/boats.jsp?type=&make=hallberg>http://www.ybw-directory.com/libs2004/boats.jsp?type=&make=hallberg</A>

There is no listing for an Oyster...not sure what the score is on that at this time of night but I'll get it checked.

We've had several problems this year:

a) with the organisers who have changed to a 'modern' database which can only output the whole exhibitors list at regular intervals, not highlight the changes as the bad old fashioned system managed. I leave you to work out the amount of work that generates our end in trying to keep our lists current;

b) getting responses back from some exhibitors...never easy.

Also we rather deep-sixed a new member of staff (Hannah) on this project as Claire, her predecessor, moved across to work on Motor Boats Monthly as soon as the SIBS preview was completed. In real time there's not much of a gap between the two as the data gathering takes six-weeks plus.

I'm not saying we cannot do better -- we can, but please don't dismiss the work we do completely. We are only supplied with exhibitor lists and have to gather the remaining info ourselves. To try and make it all a bit more useful we've linked everything to the ybw directory for the past three or so previews and have a number of ideas as to how we can improve things again.

Actually, it was entirely as I said...

Sorry, Kim, but your Boat Search facility doesn't return any results if you search for "hallberg rassy", as I said. It's true that it does work if you leave out half the maker's name, but I'm not sure how many people would do that.

PS Najad? Contest? X-Yachts?

Can't find these on the ybw Boat Search either - are they absent this year?

The companies are there...

Najad
http://www.ybw-directory.com/libs2004/company_details.jsp?tem=ybw&p=0&co_id=4232
Charles Watson only listing Wauquiez this year, plus have announced new Dutch steel cruiser agency.

X-Yachts
<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw-directory.com/libs2004/company_details.jsp?tem=ybw&url=&co_id=1511>http://www.ybw-directory.com/libs2004/company_details.jsp?tem=ybw&url=&co_id=1511</A>
Same as Najad -- company listed but we don't have any boats listed; again I'll get it looked at.

Finally, have looked at the Hallberg search issue...caused by a hyphen between the two words on our data (the correct form used by the company), hence missed the match on two separate words. We only have basic seach tools on at the moment although Matt here is working on a synonym search system, similar to the style that Google uses but geeared for marine words, that will see an outing on the main directory sometime early on in the new year. It looks as though we should add it to boat search too.

All feedback appreciated.
