LIBS - brief review of preview day

I have heard the Time Inc stand may have a secret stash of booze .... ;) Don't ask for that chap Richard though as I understand he left on Friday.

We are heading down on Sunday, can't wait to get a January boating fix before the jobs start to get the boat ready for 2017 season.

Not going with a plan or to buy anything in particular, just a bit of time with the family, looking at the things we love to do :)

,.Well we visited the show yesterday and had an enjoyable day. Bumped into one or two friends in the show and met up with old friends for lunch so that made it all the better.

The set out of the hall worked well we thought and whilst it was quiet in the morning it got busier in the afternoon but not so that it felt crowded. Let's hope the footfall is sufficient to keep it going next year. One or two thoughts:
Princess very welcoming and we looked on the 43, 58 open and the 60 fly. Liked them all and they felt like a quality product. Loved the flybridge layout on the 43.

Sunseeker accommodating everyone as usual. Not been a fan of their style over the years but went on the 55 and was impressed

Looked at the Jeannau range and of them all thought the Leader stood out as a well thought out boat. The unusual arrangement below with the saloon and forward cabin merging to form an owners suite behind a sliding door is novel but a great idea

The larger Broom has what they call a classic interior with a mix of brown leather and tartan upholstery. We really liked it and Paul Pardon showed us some plans for some very innovative boats. Quite a departure for Broom but they looked very interesting.

Fischer Panda had an extensive display which was interesting as we are in the market following the demise of our aged genny last season

Marine Teak have an extended stand right next to the Black and White Bar, which looks impressive. Luke reckons that I offer praise for their product (hard to beat on price and quality) but temper it with 'but I haven't bought a table from them'! Well, whilst we haven't bought a table from them that is only because a nice cockpit table came with the boat! Maybe one day Luke! :) :)

Both Fiord and Chris Craft have some interesting and very nice large open boats on display. Great Med playthings but not particularly suited for the UK East Coast!

Looked at the Beneteau Swift Trawlers. Really liked the 44 and thought they had done very well with the 30 apart from the flybridge, which had an uncomfortable helm seat and what I thought we oversize backs to the seating. Not a major issue in the overall context of the boat though and probably eminently resolvable.

Downsides? Well, only niggles really:
The car park has a 1.9m height restriction and our Disco is around 2.1m. There was a well hidden gate open for 'oversize vehicles' but what a phaff and why on earth it is set just on the borderline for larger vehicles is a mystery because once in there are no issues with height

Lunch in the RYA lounge was average and not particularly cheap but plenty of space and away from the crowds so it worked for us

£7.80 for four bottles of water as we left and not a mask or gun in sight! A brazen rip off but who's the fool because I paid it! :)

Overall a great day as usual! :)

I have just spent an enjoyable 3 days there and come home for a rest, I think I will go back next Sunday as swmbo wants to have a look.
I found catering was a bit poor this year compared to previous shows, it was mostly overpriced rubbish. There is a small shop at the west end on south side that do more sensibly priced water or there's the tesco outside a 5 minute walk away.
Car parking was £45 for 3 days, which was better than what was offered at hotel.

I am surprised at the catering comment. You can pretty much get something from each corner of the world if you walk the Boulevard? Some of the best expo catering out there ? May be pricey but then again what's not nowadays ?

The RYA lounge is just a hall with catering, I have never bothered

£7.80 for 4 bottles of water you say. A positive bargain. A few days ago I was sitting down (thankfully) on the 103rd, or was it 102nd floor of the Ritz Carlton, Hong Kong staring down the barrel of £12.50 for a bottle of water :)

The world is a funny old place sometimes. .... :)

Henry :)

Yes but in Hong Kong bottle water is an essential - well you not going to drink the local stuff are you :)
