LIBS - brief review of preview day

£7.80 for 4 bottles of water you say. A positive bargain. A few days ago I was sitting down (thankfully) on the 103rd, or was it 102nd floor of the Ritz Carlton, Hong Kong staring down the barrel of £12.50 for a bottle of water :)

The world is a funny old place sometimes. .... :)

2 months ago I was sitting in the Ritz Carlton Singapore sipping the cheapest bottle of red at 70 quid a bottle when my son managed to knock my glass and cover himself in red wine. What lovely staff they cleaned his T shirt and hit me with a £17 charge. T shirt was only worth a fiver.

Funny old place as one might say

Henry :)

enjoyed the show ,went to see the swift 30 but disapointed ,loved the swift 44 also the prestige 45 won my day ,but swimbo loved the sessa i think it was a 40 the quality did look good .

It was good to meet up with everyone last night.
Nothing in particular discussed - it was just good to have a general chat.
Thanks to Deleted User for the drinks in the Guiness bar.
Maybe we will see each other out there on the water again sometime.

Isn't it funny how different people see different things in life.

Rather than pay £1.90 for a bottle of water we spent the extra 10 pence and enjoyed lunch in the bridge restaurant / grill. £2.00 for a coke, £14 for a delicious burger with all the trimmings and fries. Friendly staff, a pleasant enough environment and comfy chairs. Better than anything we ever managed to find at Earls Court that's for sure.

The day started off well when we alighted from the underground car park straight into the show. No chance of getting wet so no need to drag coats around with us all day.

LIBS was the usual mixture of stuff. London is always going to play 2nd fiddle to Southampton when it comes to sheer number and variety of craft due to the cost in having them there. At SIBS you need 4 bits of string to tie onto a pontoon, at LIBS you need a custom built stand and an army of behind the scenes accredited trades people.

Met up with a load of people from the forum and enjoyed free drinks courtesy of Princess. The MBY stand also offered to refresh us. Said hello to both Hugo and Jack.

Re-acquainted myself with the S65 which I still think is a great boat. When judging the flybridge don't forget the jet ski doesn't need to be up there. It has a hi-lo platform as well as a garage. Then we saw the new 75. Holy sh1t. I'm going to do a separate thread for it but suffice to say it is amazing. This was hull 1 so a few tweaks to make but what a bit of kit. The benchmark to judge other similar sized boats by.

Popped onto the Prestige stand to familiarise myself with the 680 in readiness for the continuation of our 2016 build thread of the year. How many pages does it have to get to JFM ?

Wafted onto the Sunseeker stand where I had my only laughable moment of the show. Waited my turn and asked the girl behind the counter how I could access the Manhattan 65? It was in a separate area along with the 75 yacht and you had to go through the inner sanctum to get to them. Without batting an eyelid or creasing her "Summer Peach Tan" MAC Mineralize skinfinish powder told me it was a private boat and viewings had ot be booked before the show. But I could have a look at THAT one pointing at the Portofino 48. Well it certainly put me in my place and who knows maybe someone asking about a 65 foot flybridge really did mean 48 foot sports boat.

well if you had phone john cauldwell he would have let you on stardust or you could pay the £50,000 for next week

Thursday is late night so there were a number of parties being thrown. Obviously I can't comment on the Sunseeker bash, fearing for my dignity I chose to go to "THAT one over there" instead and can happily report Princess were gracious hosts as always. Champagne, Gin cocktails, beer, wine, Canapés, live entertainment, photos, trinkets and great company.

Security asked us to leave in ever more desperate tones so well after 8.00pm we finally bid our fond farewell and departed. I even managed to avoid traffic on the M25 by using the A406 and was back home in the blink of an eye.

I know the Sunseeker publicity machine is in 7th gear at the moment spouting sales figures worthy of a voucher for 2 at the local Toby Carvery but I spent a while quietly chatting to the suits at Princess who tend to hide their light rather than swing it around. Things aren't looking too bad there either. A very healthy order book, no less than 7 of the new 75's signed up (as of Thursday). The S65 has sold very well since Southampton and orders across the range from LIBS. The reality of course is that these shows sow the seed for not only this season but also seasons to come. I discussed my thoughts about an over crowded model line up. Who knows if we will see a change, the boating world doesn't really do change very well so I'm not holding my breath.

A great day out which did exactly what I was hoping it would.

Henry :)

Good to catch up with a few folk on Thursday, and thanks to Sunseeker, Princes and YBW for their excellent hospitality. My star of the show was the Prinnie 75. The Sunny 131 is a magnificent vessel too, and this particular one (no 2) has been beautifully fitted out. Apparently 5 sold to date, which is a year's production. Some of the smaller lesser known brands had some interesting boats too, and it was great to crawl over some of these in a leisurely environment.
Spent the whole day there, and never wasted a moment.

yep and nice evening. I was impressed with the ss 131 too! Nice layout and the stern mooring gear is a piece of art.

Thanks again to Princess and MBY for the hospitality and venues for a catch up with 8/10 forum peeps who pitched up.
