There is supposed to be a programme on the show on ITV in about 15 mins if anyone is interested. Lets hope its better than the programme from Southampton Show.

Bet its just 30 mins of overpriced powerboats.....

Richard Hammonds review...

The Marten 49 - have had my eye on this for a while and had a look at the show on Thursday. Am definitely convinced now - saw it out in the Solent recently while racing and with very little effort it creamed past all the fleets....

Most interesting thing so far is Timothy West's suit. Rather fancy myself in one like that!

Probably the sort of thing Claymore wears in his common room as he sooks his auld pipe.

And what is wrong with a bit of Thorn-pruf Worsted dear boy? The suit is obviously new as it hasn't sagged yet. I find it takes 8 years with a curly pipe in the starboard pocket and an ounce of rough cut plug in the port one to give the jacket a lived in feel. Looked rather fine as did the Falkirk Wheel.
Bloody awful programme for all that - what on earth must the non-boating public think of us?

Totally agree about the suit. If Mr West is on this forum would he mind telling us the name of his tailor? Obviously not Mr Gill.

I dread to think.

Re: Calling Timothy West

Do wish they hadn't chosen to follow the boat buying progress of a jet-set millionaire. Seems to me to perpetuate the "Have-yachts" image of an elitist sport.

Re: Calling Timothy West

Appaling programme I thought

Watched it with friends round at the house - they are not in to boats as yet but are keen to be and indeed want to buy a boat (a motor boat I am afraid but I did not evict them out of the house purely on those grounds) and the prgram helped not one iota - what did the bit about going up the nile really tell us

Also, surely the BVI bit should have been in a holiday program

Why could they not just show us more of what was actually on at the show of boats people might actually just buy

Re: Calling Timothy West

Dont think I'd go quite that far, but given the presenters it was naturally a programme about tart traps and go faster sailing boats. Real world yachting simply didnt feature except possibly the antique Suhaili.

Where were the 35ft AWB's that most people have to settle for?

Bit boring really - you were left to speculate about Denise and Vicki. Until SWMBO noticed, that is /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

AS usual...

nothing good to say from people....
The programme covered as much as possible in an hour on a wide subject to suit a wide audience.
What was wrong with it then and the presenters.....how do people think they could have done better....

Re: AS usual...

Have to say I quite enjoyed it. Not sure that the 'millionaire' was a great move, but they covered a whole spectrum of boats, and even had some intelligent use of nautical terms on occasions. Quite well pitched, considering the range of people it had to cater to
