We've had the boat laid-up for six months and one of our refit jobs was to replace the chain and gypsy on our windlass. All went smoothly and straightforward with the job - other than getting all the twists out of the new chain! Now we're back afloat we're finding that the chain goes up/down significantly slower 35/36 seconds per 10m, rather than 23-25 seconds? The chain and gypsy sizes haven't changed and the motor sounds as it always did, it just goes slower; any ideas?

Flat battery? Connection to the power cables got a bit of corrosion in it?

If it was a flat battery I had the same problem with a bow thruster today. Check the manual on the anchor windlass and check the amperage meter. If when using the windlass it slows down you may see the volts go below what the manual states say 11 volts of 23 volts (24volt system) and that is why it is slower.

Unless the gypsy is different unlikely so check the connections to the battery. after 6 months you may have forgotten how the windlass "should" sound.
