I just changed my boat and have a query about the clutches. The ones I'm used to always release by lifting the lever at the aft end. These, made by Lewmar, lift at the forward end, and when you pull them all the way back a series of small springs and a piece of webbing-like material are exposed.
Problem is, some of them will not stay open when, for instance, you're lowering a sail, the pesky thing shuts again as the rope runs through it. Is there something in the mechanism needing to be lubricated? Not obvious if there is.
Many thanks if someone who knows these can help.
