Who gets dressed up for Xmas these days,
When we were children, we used to wear our "new smart clothes " for Xmas and one set of Gran parent or other would be there for Xmas dinner, [lunch time] if not to staying for a few days,We all made the effort to look our best.

Are there dinner dances anywhere outside of London or another large city now?
Firms do not seem to do the Xmas dances or party's that they used to.

Does anyone dress up these days, I mean full tucks and long dresses, It all seems to be smart but casual.
Be nice to see some elegant people as most people clean up rather well. I do think a posh look photo does wonders for ones moral when one is feeling less than elegant.
So do you have one?

Thought MOBO-ists assumed we raggies were a scruffily dressed lot who had forgotten how to wash.

I.E raggies are truly the "stinkies"!

Sorry I thought you meant dress up as Santa!

Junior school head always asked me to do this
I had to pass the window a couple of times whilst "Miss" rang
a little bell and asked "Can you hear him"?

Then I stagger into the classroom with lots of "Ho Ho's"carrying
two huge sacks of presents. (one infant always cried in fear)
The infants had all the names on the wall so I could pretend to
be magic and call their names out to receive a present. When they were
older there was always one (usually a girl) who would spot this!

One year, whilst wearing the red outfit, snowy boots, white hair and glasses
(in other words my own grandmother would not have recognised me)
young grandson walked in to my dimly lit grotto and said
"Hello Briani"

Miou... to the comment on long legs if thats how you spell miou....

When you say tucks do you mean Tux as in Tuxedo? Or are you referring to the necessity of some forumites who have over indulged (is this possible?) on Fray Be's and beer to need to tuck their athletic chest that have slipped in when dressing up?

Anyway Tuxedo is a bit hollywood - why not just say "black tie"...

Me! and I also lay bricks left handed!! (hence being able to tie my own bow tie). Now figure that one out.

In fact I always understood all left handed bricklayers could tie their own bow tie.

Good Heavens! do I detect a slight hint of civilisation existant on the forum? or is it a wistful memory of when the world was young (& so was I) Please be advised that Christmas Dinner will be celebrated in reasonably formal attire at at least one household. However, I draw the line at tying a Black tye, the lastickey ones are perfectly adequate. Regards and a Happy Christmas to all. Tony W.

Not sure why there is such mysticism about tying bow ties. It's like tying shoe laces, except you can't see what your doing. Then again, I can tie my shoe laces in the dark

Amazing! I did not know there were so many brickies on this forum.

On a cruise there is usually a formal dress dinner.
Sorts out the cheats. My daughter sitting opposite me
left it to the desert to tell me I was wearing my bow vertically.

I got her back but that is another story

Regards Briani
