I have just sold my yacht as the family, especially me suffer from seasickness. I have bought a kayak to keep myself on the water on calmer days but was thinking about buying a RIB to take the family out when conditions were favourable or fun ;)

I am also getting a dinghy but the RIB widens the opportunity to get out on the water as windless days can now also be included for trips. The speed and distance you can travel in a RIB is also very tempting as well as the low maintenance/costs etc compared to a yacht.

Finally the question. When travelling at speed will you feel less seasick in a RIB than a yacht. You don't seem to get the big up and down movements in a RIB!?

Looking to get one of these :D

I have pretty good sea legs but I have noticed the slower the boat moves , the more other people are seasick. The worst is at anchor in 3-4 foot gentle waves IME. Can't you find a RIB owner to take you out in roughish conditions before committing though? Most mobo'ers love showing off their toy !
Regards
Rob

As said the rib won't make you sick but fuel cost will.

lol Yes I'm going for 115 HP max and I'm not one for charging around for the sake of it  We will mostly stay chugging about in Chichester Harbour trips to East Head beach etc for the kids ;)

I'll take it to Lyme Regis and Falmouth for a few day trips also :)

I find peeps much less likely to get seasick in a mobo than a yacht. The motion is more car like with less corkscrewing. There are also a lot of very good seasickness tablets about too, get some with caffeine in them too :-) Do a few trips with tablets and confidence will grow and fear (a cause of seasickness) will diminish.

To keep down the fuel costs get a 115hp Evinrude ETEC. It will cost you more initially but save you £s in the long run. It is a very quiet 2 stroke!

Fairweather Marine are a dealer I would trust

Cheers

Nah you won't get sea sick as you will be too busy thinking about the pain from your back whilst your spine falls apart. LOL!

ETEC
That is the route we are going down with our 2 'commercial' RIBS
Great power to weight ratio and really good ref fuel consumption and reliability

my word! everyone so negative about ribs on here!!!

not on the sportboat and rib forum they aint:D Sea sickness is that awfull rolling motion, in any boat that can plane you should feel fine, the smaller the better. When i anchored up out on the Solent the 2-3' chop was enough to get us to move to flatter water

The middle ear is a complex part of our balance system. In small fast craft the ratio of vertical movement to horizontal movement combined with less rolling moment seems less likely to make folk sea sick. Other factor is everybody on a rib is outside concentrating and looking forward.
