Leisure 17 wanted

I am looking for a good Leisure 17 to buy. Does anyone know of one for sale not too far away from Chichester ,so that I can realise my dream !!:)

This one ( photographed 2 years ago) is now standing looking unloved and unwanted in Paynes Boat yard.
It might be worth making some discrete enquiries .

Also consider a Sunstar 18. Another Howard design and almost identical.

Just out of curiosity, does it have to be a Leisure 17 ? The reason I ask is that there are other, similar, boats, that, if you could consider them, would make your potential range of boats to choose from much greater (and possibly cheaper!). Leisure 17 is a very good boat though, don't think I mean otherwise.

Cheers

This one is currently advertised on the Leisure Owners web site. Main sail, working Jib, genoa, 2 storm jibs, spinnaker, new anchor and chain, Seagull long shaft with re-coil, trailer.

The advert was posted on 26 June this year so could still be available.

I looked at a couple in Chi Harbour but both were rather sad. Ended up getting mine from Canvey Island so you may well have to travel.

Thanks to everyone that has generously offered help so promptly. I have to say I have been searching hard and have tried most of the ideas helpfully givenEXEPT the yachtmarket, boats for salenow and yachtworld which I shall now try. I'm not keen on the look of the sl model. My budget is more or less what it takes- for a good one including trailer and good outboard £3000+. I think the one for sale in Paynes Yard is called 'Moonwind' and the owners were quizzed by the owner of paynes yard if they want to sell and they said 'no'.The one for sale at Leisure Owners I have approached and I cant recall why that was unproductive. I should keep a log. I am open to other similar boats if I come across any in my quest and if they are sufficiently seductive to waylay me from my obsessive quest to find a good Leisure 17 (without the l)
Next year I shall be 70 and I feel the L 17 is just the boat to sail me through the next decade! The sunstar does look good and I'll keep an eye out for one to weigh up. Thank you all!

£3000 - crikey ! I know that there are some very well-heeled people that frequent this site, but for us ordinary mortals - £3000 will buy you a lot of boat if you look around. And not bad boats either.

This fine example was in Porthmadog on Sunday, even comes with a free washing line :o

£3k is too much for a Leisure 17.
With trailers and outboards they are in the £1200 to £2000 max bracket.
If you are paying more it's just for theowners polishing and fancy bits.

Do make sure you get a decent set of sails with whatever you buy as you could be looking at £800, at least, to replace them.

That's about right then. Don't know what the discount is but £600 as a discount price is a lot to add to an inexpensive boat when looking for a tidier one would have saved the expense. (I know, I've done it)
Not just Leisure 17s but any boat of that length and age has to be reasonably priced.
You have to be very careful about over-valuing boats.

My Hurley Silhouette Mk III is up for grabs. Don't know if it might fit the bill (not familiar with the Leisure 17) but by all means PM me if you're interested.

Have you thought about a leisure 20 more room and you may get one for £3000?

There's a leisure 17 advertised on the board in the village (Mengham, Hayling Island, is that close enough?). I can look at the price next time I'm there.

Friends have a Mirror Offshore which they are thinking about selling. Interested?

I did just miss a nice Leisure 17 at Mengham called . egret' but if the one you saw is a different I would be interested. I would also be interested in your friends Mirror Offshore if it has bilge keels or plates. Mengham is certainly close enough I do most of my sailing in Chichester Harbour and used to belong to the MRSC in the 1950's!! Thanks.

It's not Egret, as far as I know, know the ex owners of her. Mirror is Bilge keels. I've directed my friend to this forum so he may answer directly.

Anyone sailed a Leisure 17 much around the Solent? - It's one of the boats i'm thinking of moving upto, from my WWP, I want to be able to sail around Chichester harbour but also occasional weekend trips to Isle of Wight etc,

Will I be seriously restricted by weather? would I be better in a Hurley 20 or Fantasie 19?
