can anyone give us any information on the legend 320 as we are considering purchasing one.It will be a first yacht for myself,my wife and six year old son.Lacking in sailing experience we seem to go just for the look, and comfort ,can anyone tell us is it a good choice for a family's first boat, who will be learning around the North Wales coast line.

Dear 1334, or may I call you 1...

The legend is good for space and suits families whose sailing is relatively unambitious. They are easy to sail and quick in light to moderate conditions. They are economically priced and, despite a shaky secondhand market, good value for money.

They aref ine for day sailing with nights spent at anchor or moored. They are not hairy chested long distance cruisers nor ae they the best boats to be out in if a gale blows up - but as beginners you will be taking all precautions against this happening - won't you?

I think your family will have a great deal of fun in her during the learning process. If you decide you really like this sailing business, you may well find that in a few years time you will want to trade her in for something with a bit more stowage and a bit more substance for serious offshore cruising.

I have chartered a Bavaria 320 and found it to have a lot of weather helm. I STRONGLY advise you to charter one first. I believe that there are many better behaved boats on the market ( some even second-hand.)
