Lefkes chain re galvanise

Has it looks like we now will be spending three months in Lefkes has anyone had anchor chain re galvanise , was it any good ? And where ?

I cannot help a great deal but I photographed a pallette load of freshly galvanised chain at the Agmar yard at Partheni, Leros last year. Also I know that noelex had his anchor regalvanised via the Evros yard, also at Leros. I believe that both were done in Athens, so somebody local to Levkas will presumably be able to arrange it. I would try Joe Charlton at the chandlery as a first step.

Thank for that , I sure if Joe can't help , Rauiri in the yacht club would know some one . Just didn't know if anyone here had it done and how good it was .

I chatted about this with Vassilis in the other chandlery on the quay (the Garmin/Raymarine agent): he'd had some chain regalvanised slightly locally (Gulf of Corinth rings a bell), said it was rubbish, lasted about two years. Still, it might be worth chatting to him; he's a helpful chap.

Thanks mac , there a place on the east side but getting it there could be a problem , still waiting from a email back from them . Might have to put up with a rusty chain another years , I wouldn't mind but half of it is only two years old , brought from chandlers in Messilonghi who told me it was best chain , my foot .

Also I know that noelex had his anchor regalvanised via the Evros yard, also at Leros.

After two years of use and 2.5 years in total the "Leros" galvananising still looks good. (Over the last six months I have been testing a Mantus anchor). I am tough on anchoring gear as I normally anchor close to 365 days a year. The original Rocna galvanising looked poor after 3 years of use.

I was a bit concerned after inspecting the re-galvanising that the treatment on the shank (which is Bisalloy 80) was a very different in appearance to the fluke, but the treatment on both has lasted well. (Possibly they flame sprayed the shank?)

From memory the galvanising was quite expensive. I don't remember how much, so it was obviously not too bad.
