LED's for an anchor light

Yes I have used lots of those both in warm white and cold white depending on the application.

I also used those for my turning marker lights and when finished then dipped then in varnish to seal them then fitting them inside a screw top plastic jar.

I have also converted all my old 12v fluorescent lights using strips of those and in some fixed warm white and red strips with separate switches for each colour.

I also used the led's below in my Aqua signal nav lights warm white in the coloured lights and cool white in the anchor. steaming light and stern light

Thanks Roger. I'll get a roll from Ebay. I have a couple of not too bright fluorescent lights in the main saloon. Will update them and look into adding a red circuit, could just ad an extra switch for that.

Those strips can be used for lots of thinks. I even set some up as emergency lights at home run off an old car battery when we were having power cuts last year. Charged the battery when power was on and used led strips to light the rooms when no power was available.

I even modified my trailer lights by removing the bulbs and fixing led lights in place of them.

I've used an LED camping lantern for several years, cost about 7 quid, fine for occasional use, does about 6-7 summer nights on its AA batteries and hung in the proper place in the fore-triangle.
Seen this online today, best of both worlds.

What's the CRI of the lamp? I'd be wary putting a 6500K illuminant behind a green or red filter if the CRI was low.

I think there is a bit of 'try it and see' involved in any filtering of LED white light by coloured plastic.
These days I believe there are a lot more lines in the spectrum of LED white light than in the early LEDs.
So the colour rendering is much better.
It still seems wrong to generate red light from LED white light when it can be made directly from a red LED....

I 100% agree with that.

I first tried the NASA LED anchor and tricolour lights which have coloured LED without and coloured filters, but they kept failing. I already LED in my anchor and steaming light cool white and tried them in the bicolour and tricolour but did not look right so I then tried so warm white strips I had and these did look OK so purchased the warm white in the type that would fit my aqua signal nav lights and were very happy with the results and the increase brightness and viewing range.

When I first got some LED lamps in my workshop, I strongly preferred a halogen for some close work.
These days the latest LEDs I've got seem fine.
Could be my eyes of course!
There is always a alight worry that somebody else's eyes won't see your lights in the same way you do.

Yes of cause if any one is colour blind or even partially colour blind.

One point I know is that out skipper licencing authority requires a colour blindness exam before anyone is licenced to skipper a boat after dark so limited to a Day skipper< I don't know how the UK authorities have that kind restriction.

Ireland, (and UK, as far as I know), have no such restriction. There are other indicators to help identify a light, besides the colour.
