There are a few sources for this:

The best value was http://www.deepcreekdesign.com/firststarpage.html. but I reckon they are too expensive.

The company that I intend to use is http://www.orcagreen.com/ their web site does not have an anchor light at the moment, but I have been talking to them and they intend to market an appropriate LED bulb for the existing cheap anchor light housings in the spring at abt $80

Got mine from Duncans in Glasgow but similar ones are available from Compass and Force 4. I took off the cigar lighter plug and put on a couple of clips as my batteries are closer to the forehatch than my plug.
It was reliable, economical on power but a bit expensive to buy.. no one rammed us so I guess it works!

I use the davis anchor light, the consumption is so small I'm thinking of running it from a miniature solar panel, any ideas? :>))

I bought some solar powered garden lights (3 for £15) from local ironmongers.

The light has a 3v battery and certainly holds up all night.

The glow is white and certainly as bright, if not brighter, than a small oil lamp.

Cheers

Another 'budget' solution James !

If you have a 'Wilkinsons' store in your town, they do an LED torch which also has an 'all round' adjustable bit for five UKP including batteries. It says it is weather resistant. I bought a couple for the boat just before Xmas.

I have used in the past one of those tubelight inspection lights, the draw on those is minute and the light given off is enough to keep you awake on a dark night, only problem it was not waterproof so it soon packed up, but I am sure this could soon be waterproofed with a bit of sekaflex etc I think they are about £5 or £6 but not more than £10 any motor factors. I am thinking of mounting one on top of the mast permanently they are about 12" long.
Mike.
