Tigger is a Part I Reg Ship.
Are there any restrictions to leaving our boat in Ireland for any length of time?
By restrictions I mean VAT/brexit/ etc complications?

Temporary Admission, also sometimes called TI (Temporary importation). Non EU boats allowed in the EU for up to 18 months with no VAT to pay, but restrictions on use to owners private use essentially. The fact that your boat is on Part 1 is not relevant, only shows it it is a British Registered ship.

You should read this www.gov.uk/government/publications/notice-8-sailing-your-pleasure-craft-to-and-from-the-uk before you go. It includes the rules for TA, although of course from the point of view of an EU boat coming into the UK but they are essentially the same as going the other way. Also worth getting onto the RYA site if you are a member as there is more guidance there. Be aware though that it is not yet clear how each EU state will enforce the rules as it is all new and the volume of traffic has been low to non existent. However would not expect any undue hassle from our Irish friends.

Thanks T; very authoritative comments - as usual.

I am an RYA member, but I suspect that once I move in my next step in life (where these arm chair musing may become more "real") I will consider CA membership.
Who knows what the configuration of our B****t mess will be by then?

18 months will do me fine.

I would then return to the UK (Scotland - will it be move to indi by then?) for a year or two.

Then Norway, Sweden... Finland... (I may have to consider repatriation, in between, to keep VAT status in Blighty) ...?
