I'm about to start the process of applying for a leave of absence for next year and I'd appreciate any suggestions of how long people have scheduled for the Azores trip in the past.

Thanks.

Hi Vince, happy new year.

If I were you I would take a look at the 2008 arrival times. I took 16 days out and 15 back in my Jaguar 25 so I would expect you to be a little quicker but like always......it depends on the weather and conditions..........and............how long you want to be there (I found I wanted to stay in the Azores longer than I expected!!!)

Rough rule of thumb is 2 weeks to get there, 2 weeks to get back. And just the five central islands will take at least 2 weeks to see. In 2008 the partying as each boat arrived at Praia do Vittoria kept me entertained for a week. Don't forget to allow yourself time to get down the channel and back - although you could do that with a bit of weekend hopping if the weather was kind on the weekends.

All the above sounds about right.

I took 3 months off work. Way too long. Stayed out for 3 months though.

I allowed 3 weeks to get there - it took me 12 days. So lots of hanging around for relatives to fly out etc.

I enjoyed it but it was very expensive: Loss of 3 months wages + 3 Months home bills + Cost incurred en route = Ouch!

So next time 6 weeks, maybe 2 months to include contingencies.

Paul
