After reading the post "Definition of a mature Yachtie" and seeing some
of the replies, got me thinking do we ever really learn or do we keep
doing the same things the same way? year in year out purely because thats
the way we always do it!!!!!
Me I always like to anchor in the same old places, woe betide anyone who
nicks "My spots" as I like to think of them,
SWMBO says after all these years we have not changed or learnt very much!
maybe we just feel comfortable with it all as it is!!!!
all the best to you all

What a deep philosophical question!

Answer - we don't learn anything new of any significance without a stimulus of seismic proportion. With everything else we just go round and round the same loop. Ohhh woe is me....

This is a first for me normally when I call for action the crew just look at me and then carry on doing what they were doing.

Not sure why but your logo just touched a nerve every time I saw it. Sorry to be a kill joy I am sure there will be a big call for reinstatement.

New experiences ...

breed new insights. Try something new every day, week or month according to your taste and you will benefit by learning and not repeating old mistakes.

Sail somwhere new every year and learn and use the local techniques - they are often better and more appropriate than those one is used to.

Nothing wrong with doing things the same way...

..you always have.

Are you suggesting that change is always good just for changes sake?

If so I'll resist you on that!

I've always driven on the left side of the road and pissed in the WC rather than the hand basin and yes, I "feel comfortable" as you describe it, with both of those. Can't see what point you are trying to make.

On anchorages, how do you suggest that a weekend sailor moves 8tonnes of boat to different locations?

Re: Nothing wrong with doing things the same way...

Steve, the point is that after doing the same things for the last thirty
odd years, cannot see us changin now, we all have our favourite anchorages
and like to tuck in out of the wind in a quiet corner of some creek,
certainly would not expect anyone to move, but that does not stop me from
having a grumble to myself, comes with getting older I suppose!
And your right, why change things just for the sake of change? we like things
just the way they are, we like going to the same places, meeting the same people
every year and making new friends,
we know sometimes we are not doing things according to the book, but they
must work for us, and we're happy so why change? just to keep up, no we like
it as it is.

think the way I,v been rambling lately your properly right,
surprising what you say after a few glasses of wine,
though I hear that a bit of the other stuff is good for seasickness,
Just a shame I do not suffer from it, or might be tempted to try it
again!!!! that is if I find some, do not do a lot of socialising these days.
