It is not a complicated job to check any raw sea water risers,just a blurry awkward fiddly job.Normally involves problems getting at assorted bolts that will be well hidden inside the castings and trying to get your sockets/spanners underneath decks and coamings to release the perishers.Once you get them off,if the risers are sound ,it is really just a case of being inventive with various wire brushes and bits of steel rod to gouge out assorted kack in the waterways.Apply lashings of grease to everything on reassembly, you are certain to have to do it again at some point.
