lead line.

Jeez. All I did was go for a pee, and herself has hijacked the banter.

Watch it smiffy, if she gets to grips with this forum business, your life could become nearly as miserable as mine! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well now, if that truly be Mrs Pops (who deserves a medal for services above and beyond if you ask me).......then I would say this to her.

Your misery is self inflicted my dear, it was yourself that agreed, (or were you coerced), to do an "Owl and the Pussycat", with whats his face. Which ever, you are a brave woman, I take my hat off to you. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, tis truly she, and you have no idea! He who is rarely obeyed (especially when it came to the "I do" bit), may be an ex fly-boy, but is not bad on a boat (in every respect, but I'll go no further on that point!). My condolences to all you other forumites who have to suffer him!!

Cheers! T

How do you prevent a SWMBO from playing with yer computer without totally electrifying her with mains wire and dangerous doo-dahs? Can it be done from your 12V DC supply?

Pops

(PS Smiffy - don't pursue this - she's stronger than me and can travel...)

Oh Noooooooooo! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif As if it wasn't bad enough with Canibul and his other half, they now have competition! From the perishin' UK no less!

They'll be leaving messages and notes for each other on here next.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread folks.

Charlie wanders off to mutter quietly into his mug of cocoa, and yes, quite possibly, to dribble a bit /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You could always try a cattle prod! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm going, wont say another word, leave this poor thread alone!

"I'm going, wont say another word, leave this poor thread alone! "

Quite right, although these threads won't come to any harm by a bit of light abuse towards the end of them. I hope there are no seriously offended readers.

By the way Smiffy - if you dribble out of both sides of your mouth at the same time, at least shows that you are level-headed!

Best wishes to all, especially Smiffy.

And talking of Lead Lines, you must always remember that is how Samuel Langhorne Clemens got his name.

He spent the early years of his life working on the Mississippi River as a steam boat captain and pilot, and when he chose his name . . . . ?

"Twain the Mark, Mark Twain!"

Directly from heaving the line /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Talking of lead lines, as we were supposed to be doing /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif...........led me on to thinking about summat else, that often crosses me mind (or rather what's left of it)...and it's this.

I have often wondered what it would be like to get hold of a late 19th or early 20th century gaff cutter, nothing fancy you understand, summat say about 4 or 5 tons, and completely back date her. and sail her like that.

I am talking tarred hemp, galvanised rigging, cork or choir matt fenders, solid fuel stove, oil lamps, (all of 'em) Flax canvass or cotton sails (preferably tanned, proper like, not dyed)............would I go as far as period clothing? probably not, my ocean suit is just to warm and dry! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif (DISCUSS)??

Did I say otherwise? I wouldn't dare argue with the white duster /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Go back to thread and see my edited post.

Charlie.

4 or 5 tons???
I know of one boat.. 190sommit
More like 40 tons... and still no engine... and no depth sounder.. just a lead line...(occasionally with tallow )
And a delight to sail /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You got that right! she looks delightful, and I have read you blog, at least I think it was you? hell of a job! great stuff, but what do you think of the concept? Anyone who has read "Riddle of the Sands" will have an idea of the kind of boat I am talking about? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No need to take the piss, just cos you is from Zummerzet! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The website is yours, just went and had another look, I just got a bit adrift with the size, and I stand by what I said, cracking job! I don't know where you get the stamina of the tenacity from to take on a project like that. Victorious, looks lovely! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The reason I said about 4-5 tons, is because that would be about what my pocket could stand to look after her.

But I guess the concept doesn't grab many peoples imagination, judging by the response so far? Perhaps I should start a new thread on the Classic Boats Forum, and see where it goes?

Charlie.

Rusty you forgot one, 1" from the lead - a piece of grass, /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifand on mine at 110% of the draught a piece of red ribbon - yes I carry one how else do you calibrate and check an echo sounder?
