Does anyone have experience of both types or radar. My old CRT is playing up and I am told that the latest LCD displays are good although I read that CrRT is still best. What are your views (no pun intended).
Thanks.

All depends on what you need your redar for. The display does not seem to be the problem so much as the dia of the scanner ie bandwidth.
The CRT takes a lot more power and is also not so good for daylight viewing.
If you have a big enough scanner then definition is very good with either.
I am now using the tiny JCR 1000 which is adequate for most of my needs except say river navigation for which the definition is not good but that is down to a 7 deg bandwidth and not the display. Best to go and try a few out

LCD uses less power, but the properties of CRT (phosphoresence) lend itself better suited to radar displays. I've never seen a pro (and I mean, on a large ship) LCD radar. Somebody correct me, but I'd go CRT every time, given the choice (and space).
