Laying Down Supper - End of Season Meeting

Re: Its booked!

Sorry to butt in on your thread but, having recently visited WMYC in a boat drawing 2m we did run aground quite comprehensively in the 'well marked channel'. IIRC it got deeper once we were inside the moorings. Sorry but can't remember what state of tide it was.
Might be worth asking for some up to date info from a 'local'.

Re: Its booked!

Colin
So true, and part of the charm
I ran aground in my Wetline dinghy some 20 feet from my moored boat in 4.3m of water, just at the bifurcation of the channels. Stay close to the local boat line trots, even when they are only yards apart.
Arent you coming along then? All welcome and 'butting in' not a recognised term?

Jim

'butting in' not a recognised term /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

From the French " rather have yer sister " to Butt-in /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So, we all set then?
How about that menu? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And, according to Neil's blog, you've been indulging in Euroburp (Duvel) - still any left, or do I have to bring my own? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have set aside a crate for the WE - but I feel I owe at least a "few" to sailorman for the fabulous pictures he took of Guapa under sail on Saturday. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

ooops... just been told off this weekend for looking at wedding forums instead of YBW. Anyway, we'll be there on Vreny assuming the weather looks ok as we're a bit nervous about WM in a blow after our experience at the begining of the season..... handy hints for newbies to West Mersea - don't moor next to the big red fishing boat (we woke up just in time to fend Vreny off it, and to find it's nets under us!)

Saw Guapa on her mooring on Friday evening and Sunday lunchtime.... wondered if you were about....

Plenty of that fine Belgian brew left I believe... we supplied a fresh stock to cover the weekend.... but now completely depleted at home... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Its booked!

Please could you include us aboard Cento!

It will be Myself and SWMBO + 16 yo & two guests + 15 yo! (6 in all!)

Shame we have friends with us that weekend, as they will now have to tag along, but we do want to meet a few peeps form the forum!

Re: Its booked!

No problem with the friends, a number of us got together this weekend with a few non forumite friends as well, and they seemed to enjoy it as much as we did!.... glad there are more youngsters coming along... although they are 3 or 4 years older than ours, I think Guapa will be pleased as they're a more similar age group to his...

Re: Its booked!

I have today rebooked a table for 18 adults and 8 kids at 7pm on Saturday 7th October at West Mersea YC.
They have a function on that night, and are between Chefs, so....
They have not yet let us know, but I will chase them tomorrow morning

1) we are offered to join or be offered the same menu as the function
2) the normal Menu
3) Imported Fish & Chips or similar to the Club.

Will keep you all informed when they ring back

Jeff the Boatman, confirmed that up to 10 boats would not likely cause an issue at that time of the season.
No problem with draft of 2.1m (Mr Guapa & Mr Sailorman) Plenty of room nearer for my mudplugger then!

High tide is 12.57 and is Springs ish. Suggest getting to shore by 5pm in the boat or your dinghy, as it dries out on big tides near the pontoon for an hour or so.
Bar is open all day.....

Returning to boats wont be an issue except you will be against the tide.

Anymore besides Phatcat1 to be added?

Re: Its booked!

What is the fuction??

Wedding /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Funeral /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Christening /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Bamitsvah (excuse spelling!) /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
The Marsh Sheep Shaggers Night /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
West Mersea Swingers Night /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Should we be told! It might affect the food! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As for enough moorings, we should be able to hang two boats on one if short of space!

Who will be going from the Orwell/Stour and what time!

(as you can tell! I haven't looked at tides yet as almanac on boat)

Grant, do you want to sail down together? + anyone else?

Re: Its booked!

Hi Nick

Sailing down together would be great. I haven't looked at the tide tables yet either, but will do over the next few days.

Looking forward to the weekend and meeting everyone.

Cheers

Grant

Re: Its booked!

OK, will check tides & streams at the weekend and set time to leave Woolverstone. If we are meeting at 1700, we will need to be there 1500-1530 latest. Shouldn't be a prob, but we must be careful as this is the weekend of the very high/low spring tides (20cm below CD i think!) So low tide entry not advisable, + streams off colne bar etc v. Strong then.

I think HW is somewhere around 1200-1300 ish but will check.

Re: Its booked!

Exactly, 07h00 (ish) departure sees us out of the Orwell with on the very last of the ebb with a fair tide down to the Blackwater, arriving a couple of hours before HW...... must do my tidal height cals then if its such a big tide.... don't want to get back from the YC to find my boat laying on its side alongside the mooring!

Re: Its booked!

Speaking of low tides I must remember not to arrive back at Woolverstone bang on low tide. I did that a few weeks ago on the big tides and went aground trying to get in to my berth. It was of course as great excuse to sit back, have a gin and tonic and wait for more water.

Re: Its booked!

Well, it seems that WMYC are still a bit uncertain of their Chef arrangement for that evening, but Julia, the House Manager at WMYC is phoning me tomorrow to confirm what is available.

This is a superb fish cafe, no license, just mentioned to make Vrenys' mouth water, slobber, slobber. Hee hee.

And just to inform the Belgaphiles that FC is now cleared out of Duvel. I have however, a goodly ballast in the midships hold, a variety of English Ale. We also have a huge transfer of Stella to make to the Stella, Vreny. A residue from last weekend, which I fear will need drinking up soon.

I like the idea of a Barmitzvah. Anyone of suitable age care to donate their body parts for this one? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looking forward to seeing you all.
Who cares what the tides are like, I motored up to Harwich and back last weekend, against wind and tide, both ways. This season has been my worst ever for diesel consumption. I think I will re-engine to a 1GM at a pint an hour.

There's my motivation gone then /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Never mind, as there's another trip to Ostend on the horizon, I'll bring our final crate along! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
With my missionary zeal I will no doubt be able to convert some Duvel virgins to the good cause.

Re: Its booked!

The Coast inn is relly nice (would they really want us!!)

Never tried any of the others, but the Titarse sounds interesting!

PS I am a Duval virgin! (I think!!) Normally i stick to Speckled Hen, Abbott or Tanglefoot! ( or spitfire, nuns delight etc etc etc etc etc etc ) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
