My mooring was origionly laid when i was full time fishing it comprises of two one ton blocks connected with fifty feet of very heavy ships anchor chain, the riser is connected in the middle, the first ten feet of the riser is also ships anchor chain, from that up to the buoy is 3/4 chain, the pick up is 3/8 chain, and a large diametre buff to support it all.
Bit of a over-kill, but i sleep at night !
Displacement now is only 3 3/4 ton, where-as before it was around 12 ton !
Hi
Thanks for the info, my mooring has a dead man with heavy chain a 19mm riser and then onto 12mm chain. I found that the 12mm chain was too heavy and cumbersome to pull up without being bouyed, it only just fitted into the bow roller making the retaining pin difficult to get in. It seems we have a similar set up I have bouyed the 12mm chain 1.5 meters from the end then secured 2 meters of 10mm chain to bring on board to the cleat, my displacement is 3 tons I think this is enough but I have been told by a forumite that 3/8 (10mm) chain is not going to be strong enough in a storm. if it works for you it should work for me
Regards KW
Think you will find Mike is up the river, sheltered, we are in Carrick Roads exposed to wind from the East.
If a big blow is forcast a number of members will take there boats up river for safety, as it's sheltered.
Makes a big differance , youre location.
'Depends on what they are proposing to lay I suppose but £500 seems pretty reasonable to me. I laid a mooring on the Orwell last year, I don't have the invoices to hand but I think it cost me about £700 for the tackle and £150 to have it laid.
