Latest La Vagabond dragging anchor situation

I suspect the fishermen in Serifos are well used to this sort of situation. I was there a couple of years ago, when the Meltemi struck in the hours of darkness with some ferocity. Boats were dragging all over the bay, and tangling each others anchors. Other boats med moored on the quay were finding their anchors not holding, and were going out into the bay to try their luck at anchor, adding to the mayhem.
There was a charter party from Ukraine, who were inexperienced, and asked our help. We jumped on and took them out into the bay and got them anchored safely. By this time it was clearly unsafe to try to get back ashore on the dinghy, but one of our crew who had stayed ashore managed to hire a local fishing boat to retrieve us. Pity really, because our hosts had just opened a second bottle of rum, and it was turning into quite a jolly evening.

I thought Riley did a good job, he's a confident experienced snorkeler. As such, he would know the risks involved in diving under a boat in those conditions. I would have done the same, and have done in the past, it's not as dangerous as an inexperienced onlooker might think it is. He assessed the situation pretty quickly and did a good job in trying to calm the frightened crew of the mobo.
It also seems that Elayna did a pretty decent job of handling the cat whilst he was otherwise engaged. I would be very surprised if they didn't consider ditching their chain at some point but decided against doing so, for what reasons we don't know, so speculating is a little pointless. And it seems a little unfair to criticise them for the lack of thanks to the rescue boat/crew. I'd be very surprised if the appropriate levels of gratitude were not forthcoming. As already said, just because this wasn't shown on film doesn't mean it didn't happen.

They did consider dropping the chain. But Eleyna said that they decided not too as they believed the mobo would be left totally adrift.

Agree, they got into a situation not of their making and tried very hard to get out of it, credit to them

If they had ditched the chain it may have taken pressure off it which would possibly have enabled him to free it. If they couldn't free it they would at least have been able to take the mobo in tow and call for help. I would have thought one boat fully working is better than two disabled boats, they wouldn't have abandoned the mobo and left it to its fate. I would also have deployed my spare anchor before I was in deep water. It all worked out well in the end though and I'm sure he would have thanked the fishing boat.

As others have said they did what they did. And it all worked out fine. And it wasn't their fault.

However unfortunately I have lost interest in the whole thing since they got their new boat. I thought the whole story of them basically making it up as they went along on a shoestring pretty compelling. A great adventure. Now not so much!

It was nice to see them letting their hair down. I do wonder if taking the cat on has put unwanted pressure on themselves and the content from Outreamer, especially to do a Med tour where I'm guessing is Outreamers main customer base.

But didn't they say they just need to make payments and videos for a year and the boat is theirs? Hopefully they can get on with it.

Our Dylan could have done it

Dylan did, and really well. He said his % of tappers to subscribers was something like 4% (not that I'm going to trawl through his old posts to find it) where La Vaga is less then 0.5%. I'm sure he said his average taps was higher as well which baffled me to why he tried to increase his % of tappers rather then find an alternative way to fund his Fisher desire.

I like Dylan before I get a bashing, I like his personality and views which is why I think he's done so well but I wasn't a huge fan of his content (of the few films I watched) I much prefered his posts on here.

Did you work for nothing then?
Work? yes, of course.
Someone asked "Eh, eh, what is going on here....." and I simply gave my view.
Not a lot else seemed to be going on except the making of a home movie and a bit of sailing which most of us do anyway without the need to ask others to support us financially.

I agree with Yellow Ballad about a fool and their money. No great problem with that as that's sadly the way of the world.

But, they spotted the opportunity, are doing something right! A lot of people are payng them a lot of dosh! Market forces always prevail!
And by the way, anyone who thinks that making those "home movies" is easy needs to try it. Its serious hard work and takes a lot of time, trust me, Ive tried it. One of them, Delos I think, did give some stats once on how many hours of filming and hours of editing goes in to an episode. I know Ive seen Karin painstakingly moving a model of their boat across a chart with a camera taking a shot at a time to do an animation of their journey, lots of time to produce a few secs of episode time. Home movies, in the case of the market leaders it is not!
