There isn't a harbour master at Exmouth! Praps you mean the dockmaster which strictly speaking is actually now the marina person. If he was a short chap, 55ish with a beard then that's Keith who's the ex lifeboat cox, good chap.

Yep, we though that Oostend - Ramsgate would be the way but when we turned up at the ticket office we found that they don't take any foot passengers.

Looks as though Zebrugge - Hull is the only foot passenger service from Belgium...

worst? Ramsgate without a doubt. Sounded like a school kid on the VHF. Tell you there is plenty of spaces when you go in, then find yourself scrapping with another boat for one berth. Followed by very confusing instructions to go to the breakwater - he didnt know East from West - he says to go in front of the large catamaran (of which there were two).

Then spent all evening listening to the pontoon ramps creaking and wailing - never again.

Late post I know, but a tie between Yarmouth and St Peter's Port. We turn up in a 38ft cat and neither flinched, they got us in to ggod spots and they helped us moor up, with smiles and a cheery attitude. Yarmouth did that 3 times last year. West Cowes helped us when I smacked a winch handle into my face and smashed my glasses (missed my eyes) but East Cowes didn't even bother to come to collect the fees, we had to go to them, and we're berth holders with their parent company.

Two nominations:

The whole team in Beaucette - the best-run outfit that I have ever met.

The guy in Grandcamp-Maisy - single-handed but keeps the facilities immaculately, always willing to help if you need it, and brings the weather forecast to you (hand-copied in English) each morning.

I know I know, we screwed up... we went to them for another reason, and triggered the "have you paid yet?" question

On the other hand, it would have been terribly wrong to use their facilities without paying when I knew in advance that there was a charge, now wouldn't it? Especially when you consider that the charges are very reasonable for a cat. Not.

Good point Beaucette were good, only downside being they don't do permanent berths for cats, or Intraventure would be there now.
