Loose plans for Newton creek seem to be loosely based around the last two meets. Meet up, have a blast in the boats, have a beer, have some food and good company.
Early'ish summer late spring seemed to be the time suggested. A bit of a cruise to yarmouth or somewhere would be good. Blame steve it was he that piped up about the fish food place! Its all his fault, in a beer fueled moment on Wareham Quay back in October.
If its half as good as the last two meets, count me in, I'll be there. A blast across Poole Bay and up through the north channel into the solent will get rid of a few cobwebs!
I reckon there should be more boats on that one. A couple of people keep their boats in the solent area. If push come to shove I could launch on Southampton water somewhere. Go on, you know you want to go, even steve is gonna get his tub up and running by the time it happens.
It's just a timing thing really as I work a month away at a time. My boat is firmly fixed in the Broads though, so the hitching thumb will be out.../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
right then, how long are we staying over then, please bear in mind that my old tug will only do 12-14Knots, (but it does stay the right way up)
iv'e said already that i'm not keen if my boats not ready, but i'm bringing the engine swap forward now, so providing the woodwork is ok, i'm in.
do we want to kip on boats, or find a nice (warm) B&B/Hotel (with bar Forbsie!) and treat our old bones to a bit of luxury? (wifes answer already available if required!)
whats the feeling on numbers etc, is B1/HLB/Learner etc up for it this time or are the "wuss club international" washing their hair that weekend?
this thread is already too bloody long but we might as well go with it, i'll get broadband sorted just the read the bloody thing!
ah yes, trying to do too much! barry told me how to do the url thing, added to the wreath and trying to edit the spelling mistakes on the post.... it's all got too much...sob''
ok this is the score. friday night, sat indoors (Mrs Woman gone out on the raz) watching kids cartoons on sky (quite good as it happens) vodka and tonic ice no slice, baby sitting favoutite daughter (i know i shouldn't say that, but honest i am!)
looking though all the old posts came across the last one, thinks to myself... i wonder if anyone else is sad enough to look through all the old ones, so. childish and silly as it may be, i thought i'd post a reply, and see if ought happens.
before i get ridiculed for the rest of my life, i'm not pissed. iv'e spent the last two days burning the worlds supply of chipboard flooring and all the other timber crap one accumulates whilst building. finished at about 18:00. stuffed a bit of stilton into a piece of rump steak, sweated some mushrooms and glaze roasted two sausages. so i'm fed, watered, and in good company... it's how i like to be.
the down side is that i'm working the weekend, and xmas eve night. so i'll be a right miserable twat chrissie day. i hope the kids understand. sometimes i wish i'd stayed in the motor trade, at least i'd have got the holidays off! then again, someones got to do it, it just as well as be us... at least i know i can rely on the blokes to do the job well. something iv'e had a dificulty saying on some other stations and watches iv'e worked on. sorry i'm wandering, i think the vodka could be taking effect. so i'll go now. if you are sad enough to read through 300 odd posts, welcome to cyber hell!! all the best. steve.
reading this has made me realise that I am both hungry and thirsty............
Hoo and Hoo2 both welcome to hitch onto Phaeton, but would probably prefer a lift from Southampton or Pompee I would have thought tosave another hour in the car.
Get your bids in early with regard to timing Hoo and we can probably fit in with one of your months off.
Please please do not forget that you have offered to put up all the attendees of Poole trip on your boat on the broads in the summer - Forbsie can't wait to see the size of Hoo2's bar.....lol
I reckon we should aim for a neap tide weekend in early May - anyone know any accomadation accessable by dingy from Newton?
This'll be the third forum outing, so to speak, and by all the noises people have been making, its a foregone conclusion that its going to take place.
Whats the chance of the magazine getting hold of it. Even if they didn't bring Calm Viagra, they've still got the rib that could get into Newton Creek.
So come on Mr Editor. What do you reckon to a couple of column inches and a piccy or two. Its your mags forum that started it after all! Its a bit of free advertising if nothing else, couple of MBM or YBW stickers for the boats and a little cruise round to the Folly or into Yarmouth.
It wouldn't have to be a full blown crusie club thing. Just a bunch of like minded people getting together and enjoying their boats. Surely that was the aim of the forum in the first place, to bring like minded people together and chat about a common interest.
We pulled it off in Wareham and again in the middle of winter in Poole. Enjoyable both of them. Even if the weather wasn't that brilliant last weekend, we still managed to get out on the boats for a spin round the harbour.
Why don't you address this directly to Kim or (the dreaded) Paul Lomax(tee, hee) as there was no response regarding this last trip from IPC. I agree that it has to be worth at least a few column inches to the readership and perhaps encourage more to join this friendly forum(potential subscribers)
Your as sad as me. 8.43 in the morning and your on this damn thing! I'm not sure that the powers that be are really that intersted, through time/money/logistics or other reasons unbeknown.
I think they have reached their target in as much as bringing people together and making it a sounding platform for your average boater. If the RYA threads on the 'other side' are anything to go by, a few people are sitting up and taking a bit of notice.
On the other hand they have got the Cruise Club thing attatched to the mag, so another bunch of idiots bashing about in the middle of winter probably isn't that attractive to them. Lets face it, who can blame them, I was wondering at times what the hell I was doing there! Damn good fun though and thats what its all about.
It would be a bit of free publicity for them though and as you say, a bit of good publicity showing what a friendly place it can be! Not the percieved bear pit it can sometimes turn into all be it in a jovial mood. I just thought it would be good to give the forum a face rather than the faceless image some forums have.
If it was worked right then it wouldn't be like work for the 'rep' from the mag. I'm sure that we could twist his/her arm to join in with the jollies. I reckon they could get a bit of an article out of it, even if it was just was a bit of a page filler in the news bit. It hardly warrants a full blown double page spread.
The over riding factor here, I think, is that old peach of the insurance and liability thing. If they put their name to something or are shown to be involved in it somehow and something goes wrong, then it only takes on idiot to jump on the latest insurance 'sue yer arse off' society that we seem to have at the moment and that'll be that. I can understand that, in this day and age. Anyhow I'm rambling now and my full English is about to hit the table. So I'm off for my breakfast.
