I am in a power boat. Up ahead is a large vessel with apparently 2 anchor balls vertically above the wheelhouse.

What action should I take?

MINESAPINT.

Re: possible answers

oi, quiet please until the invigilator has taken in all the papers.

My answers are that

1. It could be NUC, so avoid BUT bit too hasty to jump to just the one conclusion cos ...
2. He might be a fisherman drying out some flatfish and the sun makes it look like NUC, but you'd best avoid anyway.
3 OR possibly he's a ninny, and think that putting two anchors down means but two anchor balls , so avoid
4. The only thing wrong with the boat is that the anchor balls are stuck in the rigging, possibly, so avoid anyway.
5. Your eyes have suddenly developed a weird fault that shows small black dots, so avoid everything.
6. It's a party boat, and two ballons have got caught in the rigging, so avoid.
7. It's two boats at anchor, one behind the other, so avoid
8. um, i think that covers most things?

Re: possible answers

It's a bloody shame that there are far too many people out there that do not appear to take any notice of the black ball.
I say this as an angler, often peed off by boats that come within 20ft of my boat when we are fishing.
Wonder what they would say if an 8oz lead weight smashed through their sails or worst still their hull.

Re: possible answers

too many bloody fishermen have a basket permanantly hoisted frd ....... does it make you wonder why some day signals are ignored

Re: possible answers

Some of us might think we were being subjected to violent attack, and use 'reasonable force' to defend ourselves. Some of the many pieces of lead which might be returned could well be propelled by a black powder cartridge.....

BTW, I agree that *all* inconsiderate behaviour is to be deplored. That includes those anglers who cast from pier heads across the entrances of many harbours - and do so just as one is sailing in. I'm very tempted to rig a sport rod, wire trace, game fish hooks - and pull me one of the buggers off the wall and into the harbour!

Pier head fishing is where some common sense should be used, but i am talking about when you have over 3 miles of water all around your boat and some dickhead has to pass by less then 20 yards away sucking on a can of larger.
