"i have a laptop with vd".....

Get that sorted first, it can get nasty if ignored.

But seriously, yes, its that easy. I use Garmin MapSource, and a little Etrex Legend and its easy peasy.

Been looking at this myself, assume you use MapSource as a base program then load up additional charts for waters you want ??? do these cost much more, seen the main program for about £50.

Yessum, BlueCharts are between £130 and £250 each. You will only get full full full functionality if you have a Bluechart compatable GPS unit, however, you deffo don't need it.

FYI, I have seen (tho not used obviously!!) full versions of Atlantic Bluecharts on various Peer to Peer File sharing applications (edonkey, kazaa etc). Now these give you all the charts in full detail for Europe and Scandinavia (inc Med), but those clever bods at Garmin give you a unique code to allow FULL intergration with your garmin unit. However NMEA uploads and downloads, including Plotting and Tracking are perfectly possible.

Hope this helps
