Kwiggle folding bike

^^ Yup.

  • If you mean stern-to-quay, that's not a thing in the US. As for a regular slip, not in the way for me at all. Not in the way of the dinghy on davits either. Obviously, this depends on the boat.
  • Lots of oil (Edison Chain Care mostly). No rust. And if you ride a lot, chains are replaced every 2 years anyway. Even my at-home road bike is on its third chain in 12 years.
  • I'm not sure there is any plain steel on my bike other than the chain and wheel bearings. Carbon, aluminum, other composites, and stainless.
  • Hose down occasionally.
  • Cheap bikes are good for most people. No one will steal them either, and they still ride better than a folder.
  • We don't leave them there when not cruising.
If it's really nasty I'll bring the rode bike in. But they have stayed out on fair offshore passages, up to about 30 knots (It is a very dry boat). Bear in mind that it weighs under 20 pounds, the wheels come off in seconds, and so it does not take much more room than a folding bike, just different. I always have a spare bunk.

What it saves, when coast hopping with kids, is ...
  • Having bikes for all the kids. They bring their own.
  • Having to bring bikes, even folded, down the companionway.
  • Folding and unfolding. Just grab it and go.
Not an answer for everyone. It works better on cats. But it is an easy answer for someone that wants to try bringing a bike along, to see if they like it. Take the bike you have on a trip or two.

Scooters do not carry legality in all areas. Nor do certain e bikes.
Since I broke my femour I have been using it round the village for physio exercise.
May be cheating but it helps. only a few miles. Max 5 Now Istruggle
Before I had the accident I used to do 13 mile circuits round the Dengie . The motor cuts out at 15.5 mph.
So I use it on the hilly bits where I struggle to hit 15.5 so the motor works. But on the straights to Tillingham I can hit 18 mph & it is totally me
I was averaging 16MPH for the circuit so I thought that was pretty good
There are hilly bits on the Dengie? :)
