Knee pads that stay in place

Apart from normal jobs that require knee pads , I often go forward on my knees when the weather gets lively.

Yeah, I have the same problem. I think the manufacturers assume that builders have thicker knees than the rest of us.

I would be leading all my ropes back to the cockpit, to avoid going forward in bad weather, not getting knee pads - but each to their own

Try Screwfix but yes but pads integrated in trousers for those who work in lofts laying boards or reflecting sheds etc . My strap on ones are fairly useless apart from occasional diy use. I sure spinlock are the bees knees though.

Is it likely to be worth me keeping them for sailing/DIY?

I use something like these at work for my overalls which have a pocket for them to slide into - cheap as chips and last a long time

Absolutely trousers with a padding pocket (or just with built-in pads). Worth considering your size though; I seem to have quite long femurs so for some brands, when I buy the long-leg version, they seem to just add extra fabric to the ankle end of the normal leg version so the knee pad sits too high on me. But strap-on pads are much less utility and comfort.

Have a look at a dive shop. I have some neoprene knee pads to go over the outside of a wet suit to protect the wet suit might suit you. ol'will
