I'm off for sailing on a different boat next week, and just thinking about everything I need. So far there is:

Waterproofs
LJ and harness line
Boots, shoes for on deck and another for going ashore.
Warm hat and cap
Gloves
Undies
Thermals
shirts and sweaters
trousers and shorts
toiletries and towel
drugs
passport
mobile phone
glasses
wallet
sextant and astro nav tables

What else should be on the standard list?

GPS in case your sextant falls over the side

You probably won't need the shorts. And really ask yourself whether you're really likely to use the sextant however good your intentions at present might be. Other than that you will probably want to consider taking a sleeping bag, or at least checking that they're available on board. In the same vain, ask if they've already got LJ's and harnesses. Personally I like to take as little as possible. If you can't comfortably carry it then you're taking too much.

I recommend you take with you a piece of fine cord, say about 18" long.
What for ? To make a lanyard, so cannot lose your glasses overboard, it can be very annoying..

'European Health Insurance Card' ( E111 as was; stuck inside passport )
Visa(s) a/r
Forrin money for the first cold beer(s)
Sleeping bag....
Credit card emergency contact numbers
Headtorch
Personal packs of e.g. dried fruit/candied ginger/nuts'n'raisins ( if not for you, for massaging others' morale in the wee sma' hours )

Enjoi!

:)

....unless it's a very friendly boat.

FWIW, if I have to sail by night (which seems to be your case?) I bring my own bearing compass

oh, and also a small good quality monocular (sp?), like 8/10cm long, which can disappear in a pocket and usually has much better optics than the common binoculars usually found onboard

thanks for the tips, I must admit to forgetting about the sleeping bag.

Medical card stays in wallet all the time so no worries there, visa not required for US of Europe yet!

I am not keen on headtorches - somebody once bought one my boat and spent the first hour dazzling others when he turned around to talk.

Mobile phone charger... that reminds me, I left it on another forumite's boat a couple of weeks ago.... SWMBO will have to do without for a few days.
