Tooth paste has worked for me, when I didn't want to use grease. Easy to wash out, not sticky. Just use a little.

Toothpaste is quite abrasive, even in small quantities, and I would think it's not suitable for bearings ...

Ky jelly is water based. Not sure if it is viscous enough. I have used it to lube zips on drysuits.

I use anhydrous Lanolin some times called wool fat its stiffer than noat greases so will hold the balls in place better

You don’t need any fluids or goo if you follow the instructions per my earlier message. It’s so easy!
